Haryana to install solar power system in rural schools

CHANDIGARH, JULY 10 

The Haryana Government will install solar power system in the secondary schools of rural areas in the state so that uninterrupted power could be supplied for proper working of EDUSAT system. Apart from this, the State Government has set a target of generating 1190 MW solar energy in the current financial year and to achieve this goal, solar energy plants will be set up in 220 health centres this year.

          This information was given by Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy, Dr. Banwari Lal while speaking at the State Level Awards Distribution function organized by the Department, in Panchkula near here today. In this function, Panchkula MLA, Gain Chand Gupta and Kalka MLA, Mrs. Latika Sharma were present as special guests.

          He said that efforts are being made at large level by the State Government to promote use of solar power in the state. The Minister said that solar energy plants have been set up at 160 Community Health Centres (CHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in the state and solar energy plants are being set up on the rooftops of schools, Anganwadi centres, CHCs and PHCs, government schools and government buildings. He said that farmers are being encouraged to set up solar power pumps and for this, there is a provision to provide 75 per cent subsidy on the installation cost to the farmers for this pump. For this, a budget provision of about Rs 1,600 crore has been made.

          The Minister said that power generation from coal and gasoline is not only costly but it also spreads pollution in the environment. He emphasized the need to make people aware of solar energy and said that the positive results are being yielded of the efforts being made by the government. He said that from the years 1995 to 2018, only 440 MW of solar power was produced, and now the government has taken the resolve to produce 1190 MW of solar power in just one year.

        MLA, Panchkula, Mr. Gian Chand Gupta said that solar energy has been given the status of industry and solar power system has been made mandatory for 500 square yards houses. He said that LED bulbs save up to 80 per cent of electricity.

        Additional Chief Secretary of the Department, Mr. T.C. Gupta said that emphasis are not only being laid on promotion of solar energy, but also on the conservation of energy. He said that farmers are being encouraged to install five state motor pumps and for this, the government would provide such motors to farmers on affordable prices. He said that 10 solar energy parks of 650 MW capacities are being developed across the state.

        Director General of the Department, Dr. Renu S. Phulia said that the compliance of Energy Conservation Building Code 2017 has been mandatory in new buildings being constructed by different departments and private organisations. The buildings being made on this technique will not only be helpful in energy conservation, but would also provide relief from problem of carbon dioxide pollution released through air-conditioners. She said that the use of LED bulbs in government buildings has been made compulsory and it saves up to 80 per cent of electricity.
