Punjab Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Industries and Commerce Vini Mahajan emphasized on ensuring quality standards in order to make a global recognition while delivering an address during the inaugural session at the Regional Quality Conclave on 'Excellence through smart manufacturing' organized by PHDCCI in association with Quality Council India (QCI) under the aegis of Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Govt of India today at Hotel Taj, Chandigarh. Over 200 manufacturer delegates from five states of North deliberate on the issues and challenges concerning quality control.
Emphasizing on state's industrial growth Vini Said after the success of 'Make in India', State government is also striving for the 'Make in Punjab' keeping the quality control and its standards. Many Taiwanese and Japanese companies are foraying into Punjab market who expects the best of quality from local manufacturers. Vini urged from the industry, representatives to exhibit quality standards so that state govt's upcoming industrial park near Rajpura bring massive success in the manufacturing arena.
Earlier, CK Biswas, CEO, National Board of Quality Promotion, QCI in his deliberations said that Quality Control is emerging as a global challenge. The industry is primarily focusing on production and ignoring quality standards. This is one of the reasons, due to the lack of quality, the industry is losing orders. Punjab, as a region has a high sense of technology, labour, investment power but need to maintain a balance between pricing and quality.
While addressing the gathering RS Sachdeva, Chairman, Punjab State Chapter said that the present Govt has set an ambitious target of making India a five trillion economy by 2024 which can be possible through Smart Manufacturing aligned with quality control. Whereas Country has improved its ranking by five places to jump to 52 positions in 2019 from 57th position last year according to the Global Innovation Index. The need of the hour is to maintain a cord between smart technology and quality control to maintain this consistency.
Dr Ashok Khanna, Former President, PHDCCI said that Indian industry can have global competitiveness if it has Quality parameters in place. He deliberated on the evolution of quality tools in the industry.
Dr Jatinder Singh, Director, PHDCCI said the objective of nationwide series of Conclave is to sensitize SMEs to adopt the facets of quality in manufacturing hailing from automobiles, pharma, textiles, electronics, logistics & supply chain and others. "Currently, the manufacturing industry contributes 16 percent in total GDP which can be enhanced, if the industry abides by quality controls," said Dr Singh.
The distinguished speaker dwelled on pertinent themes on Smart Manufacturing & Industry 4.0; Quality Culture to enhance performance; Predictive and Preventive Maintenance; Improving Customer Engagement through Effective Technologies and Risk of Unauthentic Certification in Manufacturing. Present on the occasion, Prof Harpreet Singh, Prof & Dean ICSR, IIT, Ropar, Dr Ranjit Mehta, Principal Director, Pranav Gupta, Chairman, Haryana, State Chapter, Dr Ashok Khanna, Past President, PHDCCI, Upinder Singh Dhingra, Manager, Ernst Young LLP, Col Rajiv Bhargav (Retd), Associate Director, ISB, Mohali and many other experts from QCI also spoke on the occasion.
