1.59 crore to exercise their voting right in Haryana

With the inclusion of 3,73,394 new voters, enrolled from January 15, 2014 to March 22, 2014, about 1.59 crore voters in Haryana will exercise their voting right in the Lok Sabha
elections to be held on April 10, 2014.
Giving this information here today, the Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, Mr Shrikant Walgad, said that people had shown great enthusiasm in getting their voter cards prepared. Updating of voters' list is a continuous process. A special camp was organized on March 9, 2014 to enable people to get themselves registered in voters' list.
Besides voter I-card; voting slip would also be given to the people so that they could exercise their right to vote.
Mr. Walgad said that there were about one lakh service voters in the state, including mostly Defence personnel. Work on postal ballot for service voters has already started and after withdrawal of candidature by candidates on March 26, postal ballots would be got printed and sent to service voters to enable them to exercise their right to vote.
The total voting percentage was 67.94 in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections in Haryana whereas female voting percentage was 66.17. In the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, the voting percentage was 65.72 whereas female voting percentage was 62.80. In 1999, the voting percentage was 63.68 and female voting percentage was 58.27.
Likewise, in the 1998 Lok Sabha elections, the voting percentage was 68.99 whereas female voting percentage was 64.98. The total voting percentage in the 1996 Lok Sabha elections was 70.48 whereas the female voting percentage was 68.76, Mr Walgad added.
