Developing ancient cultural heritages, historical places and holy pilgrimages into tourist spots

CHANDIGARH, SEPT 22
Haryana plans to develop ancient cultural heritages, historical places and popular holy pilgrimages into tourist spots to draw tourists from all over the world, and enable them to keep a date with the state's glorious past and rich cultural heritage.
       This was disclosed by Mrs Seema Trikha, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, while speaking at the Incredible India Tourism Investors' Summit 2016 organised by the Union Ministry of Tourism, in association with the Tourism Finance Corporation of India (TFCI) and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in New Delhi, today.
        She said that the Golden Jubilee of Haryana’s inception would be celebrated from November 1, 2016. Haryana offers rich possibilities of boosting tourism due to its significant historical and religious identity. Tourism has now diversified into heritage tourism, agriculture tourism, golf tourism, adventure tourism and MICE (Meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) tourism.
       MICE tourism has significant potential and it is increasing by the day. Various tourist complexes in the state have been equipped with moden convention halls, cabins and more than 50 conference halls, multipurpose halls and banquet halls to meet the growing demand.
        A scheme has been evolved to introduce adventure activities at Tikkar Tal in Morni, Surajkund in Faridabad and Damdama in Gurgaon. Besides, Haryana Tourism is leading in terms of providing quality hospitality education. State institutes of Hotel Management have been set up in Kurukshetra, Panipat, Faridabad, Rohtak and Yamunanagar, she added.
        Principal Secretary, Tourism, Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, said that Haryana Tourism was the first to introduce farm tourism in 2003 to attract tourists to villages and farms. Under this scheme, there are 18 registered farms near Delhi where special packages are available for tourists. Besides, Haryana is leading in promoting various arts and folk arts by organising fairs and festivals. Haryana Tourism organises Surajkund International Crafts Mela at Surajkund in Faridabad every year from February 1 to 15.
        Delivering a presentation on possibilities of tourism in Haryana, Managing Director, Haryana Tourism Development Corporation, Mr. Sameer Pal Srow, said that Kurukshetra had been included under the ‘Swadesh Darshan Yojana’ of the Central Government. Under this, Rs 17.30 crore would be spent on development of sites associated with the ‘Mahabharata’. With a view to encourage the units and people associated with the field, the Haryana Government has declared tourism as an industry, he added.
