CHANDIGARH, JUNE 9
In a major relief to sugarcane growers, Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today announced to release Rs.180 crore as financial assistance to Cooperative Sugar Mills in the State for payment of sugarcane purchased from the farmers during the crushing season 2013-14. Haryana is the only State of the country which has released timely payment to its farmers every year.
The Chief Minister, who was addressing Congress Party workers meeting at Kurukshetra today, said that all the concerned officers have been directed to release the payment to farmers within a week. Any laxity on the part of officers or officials in this regard will be viewed seriously and disciplinary action would be taken against officers responsible for the delay in the release of payment.
He said that Haryana is giving highest price of sugarcane to the farmers across the country. Farmers of the state are paid Rs 301 per quintal for the early variety of sugarcane, Rs 295 per quintal for mid variety and Rs 290 per quintal for late variety of sugarcane.  He said that farmers have been paid on time for the sugarcane purchased from them and no arrears are pending for the earlier crushing seasons.
