46,000 farmers attend krishi mela in Hisar

CHANDIGARH, SEPT 10
                     The two-day Krishi Mela of Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (CCS HAU) concluded at Hisar today.   Over 46 thousand farmers from Haryana and adjoining states of Punjab, Rajasthan, Delhi and U.P. attended the mela and acquainted themselves with the latest techniques of farming.  They also purchased improved seeds of ensuing rabi season crops and vegetables.
                   According to Director of Extension Education and Convener of the mela, Dr. R.S.Antil, the farmers purchased certified seeds of various rabi crops as well as fruit saplings worth Rs. 79 lakh during both the days. Farm literature over Rs. 84 thousand was also sold in the mela.
                 The university had set up a seed sale counter at the mela venue in collaboration with various Government seed agencies including Haryana Seed Development Corporation, Central State Farm and National Seed Corporation for sale of seed to the farmers.
                  Besides seeds, an agro-industrial exhibition put up on the occasion, was another attraction  for the farmers as huge crowd of farmers was seen seeking information about the different farm machinery, agro-chemicals, agriculture tools and other technologies displayed in the stalls in this exhibition.
                  Dr. Antil said the farmers who visited the mela were taken on guided visits to the research farm of the university and shown demonstrations of the bumper rabi  crops raised by the varsity scientists. Besides, they were also apprised of the technologies for the conservation of natural resources in agriculture. He said the farmers also availed the soil and water sample testing facility at the mela site and got tested 265 soil and 281 water samples.
