Haryana Chief Electoral Officer, Mr. Shrikant Walgad has issued clarification regarding filing of nominations for assembly elections on holidays falling on September 20, 23 and 25 in government offices in the state.
Mr. Walgad said that all candidates could file nominations on holidays on September 20, 23 and 25 at respective assemblies as these days are not public holidays in the Negotiable Instrumental Act, 1881. He clarified that there would be no nominations on September 21 (Sunday), being public holiday.
Mr. Walgad said that filing of nomination process would start from September 20 and continue upto September 27 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
JOINT MEETING OF OFFICIALS: In view of assembly elections in Haryana, Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police from Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan will hold a meeting at Sirsa on September 19 to discuss the security arrangements on border areas of three States.
While giving this information today, an official spokesman said that Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police of district Hanumangarh of Rajasthan, districts Mansa, Bathinda and Muktsar of Punjab and district Fatehabad of Haryana would attend the meeting.
He said that cooperation would be sought in the meeting from Rajasthan and Punjab administrations at checkpoints of adjoining neighboring states. He said that cooperation between the administrations of three states prior to the elections would result in avoiding any inconvenience during the elections due to external elements. Apart from this, list of bail jumpers and proclaimed offenders have also been sought from the concerned officers, he added.
SPECIAL SURVEILLANCE TEAMS FORMED: Haryana Director General of Police Mr. S. N Vashisth said that in view of the ensuing assembly elections in the State, flying squads and special surveillance teams have been constituted to ensure the peaceful conduct of elections.
Mr. Vashisth who was presiding over a meeting of senior police functionaries of Yamunanagar gave necessary directions to ensure free, fair and peaceful conduct of assembly elections in the State. Besides, he also directed to ensure strict compliance of Model Code of Conduct.
Mr. Vashisth said that there is proper law and order situation in the State. He said that security arrangements have been tightened along the border areas adjoining neighboring states. Also, directions have been issued to nab the proclaimed offenders. Apart from this, para-military forces would be deployed on the sensitive and hyper-sensitive polling booths in the State, he added.
The Director General of Police also directed all the Incharge of Police Stations in the State to ensure that the holders of licensed arms deposit their arms at the concerned police stations.
