Haryana folk artistes to perform in Russia

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 20
 Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal today said that as the State Government has signed an agreement with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, the folk artistes of Haryana will soon visit Russia to give their performance under a cultural exchange programme and similarly, their artistes would perform in Haryana.
          The Chief Minister was speaking at the concluding function of eight-day Saang festival at Tagore Theatre, here today. He said that now the performers of Saang would be given Rs 50,000 instead of Rs 40,000 earlier.
          He said that the government would encourage the folk artistes and given financial assistance to perform abroad.
          Additional Chief Secretary, Cultural Affairs, Mr Vijai Vardhan said that this Saang festival had attracted a huge crowd, which was never seen in last 20 years.
          The Principal Secretary and Director General, Cultural Affairs Department, Dr Abhilaksh Likhi said that on the pattern of eight-day Saang festival, which concluded today, similar functions would be organized at block and tehsil level during the whole year so as to promote rich cultural heritage of Haryana.
