President to sympathetically consider Haryana’s appeal on SYL

 CHANDIGARH, NOV 28
President of India, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, today assured to sympathetically consider Haryana’s appeal for implementation of the decision of the Supreme Court in the Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) Canal case.
An all-party delegation of the State led by Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal had met the President, Mr. Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi to urge him for implementation of the verdict at the earliest. The President gave them a patient hearing.
Mr. Manohar Lal, who was interacting with mediapersons outside Rashtrapati Bhavan after meeting with the President, said that the Haryana should get its due share of water. The State is asking for its rightful share and not Punjab’s share, he added.
He said that while both States had been allotted equal share of 3.5 Million Acre Feet (MAF) water under the water sharing agreement, Haryana was getting only 1.62 MAF. He said that the Supreme Court had already dismissed the proposal of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha to terminate the agreements.
