14 lakh children administered polio drops

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 16
The Sub National Immunization round of Pulse Polio 2019-20 has been held today in 13 districts of Haryana namely Ambala, Faridabad, Gurgaon, Jhajjar, Karnal, Kurukshetra, Mewat, Palwal, Panchkula, Panipat, Rohtak, Sonipat and Yamunanagar, in which booth activity was undertaken on the first day to maintain the polio free status of the State. On the first day during the booth activity, approximately 14 lakh, which is about 52 per cent children under 5 years of age, have been administered polio drops.
While stating this here today, an official spokesman said that this campaign will continue for another two days by way of House-to-House activity to trace and administer polio drops to the left out children on booth day. In order to smoothly carry out this campaign, around 13,000 booths were setup in the state and these were manned by approximately 50,000 health officials, volunteers, Anganwari and ASHA Workers. About 2,100 officers and officials supervised the activity apart from Independent Monitors of NPSP-WHO. This activity was preceded by undertaking awareness campaign through print media, Radio, TV, miking, drum beating and other IEC activities. Approximately 26 lakh children are to be covered during this campaign in the state, he added.
He said that the left out children during the booth activity on first day, will be administered polio vaccine drops on June 17 and 18 through house-to-house teams.
During this first round, special attention has been paid to high risk areas like slums, isolated hutments, brick kilns, floating and migrating population and construction sites so that no child is left uncovered in these areas. Approximate 1,240 mobile teams are also working during the activity to cover all children in under served and poorly approachable areas.
The spokesman said that it is important to know that wherever, pockets of children remain un-immunized, the Poliovirus sustains survival and circulation. With every successive round of Pulse Polio Immunization, the areas of Poliovirus circulation get reduced. For which, active participation is solicited from General public and all other stake holders. The next Sub National Immunization day for Polio is scheduled to be held on September 15, 2019 in above mentioned 13 districts of the state.
