Improving health standards at the fastest pace in Haryana

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 27 
 Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij said that Haryana has been ranked the first state in the country to improve health standards at the fastest pace. According to the latest report of the NITI Ayog in this regard, the state has recorded the highest increase of 6.55 points as compared to other states.
          For this, the NITI Ayog had studied health services and health standards with the help of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the World Bank. After Haryana, Rajasthan stood second with 6.30 points and Jharkhand was third with 5.99 points. Assessing the year 2015-16 as the base year, the Commission has examined health standards during the two years of reference year 2017-18. Among these 23 standards were checked including children's low-birth weight, infant mortality rate, mortality rate of children below 5 years and improvement in maternal mortality rate, increase in institutional delivery, grading of hospitals, and NABH/NQAS certification, sex ratio and the availability of experts, doctors and staff.
        The Health Minister said that since 2014, there has been unprecedented improvement in the health services in the state. Under this, as per the report of the NITI Ayog, the mortality rate of children under the age of five year per 1,000 children is 37 after reduction of six points, the infant mortality rate dropped by 3 points to 30 and neonatal mortality rate dropped by 2 points to 22. Similarly, the rate of birth of low-weight children has decreased. Earlier this figure was 14.9 and now it has reduced to 8.47. Total vaccination coverage has increased by 5.39 points and now it is 88.86 points and institutional delivery has increased from 80.25 to 84.19 points.
        Mr. Vij said that in the last three years, there has been increased in the attendance of Chief Medical Officers, ANM and staff in hospitals. Apart from this, the appointment of doctors in the primary health centres and community health centres has been increased by eight points and that of para-medical staff nurses by three points. Simultaneously, the number of Grading 4 Community Health Centres has increased from 22 to 41.5 per cent. The number of specialist doctors in the state has registered an unprecedented 21.1 per cent increase. He said that apart from this, Haryana has registered a growth in health standards, which will further improve in future.
