Punjabi, Hindi and Sanskrit depts to be set up in Devi Lal Varsity

CHANDIGARH, AUG 4
The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, today directed to set up departments of Punjabi, Hindi and Sanskrit in Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa. He also directed to set up departments of foreign languages in the University for Spanish, German and Japanese languages as these offer excellent career prospects for the students.
          Mr. Hooda was speaking at a function organized at Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa today.
Mr. Hooda said that people were well aware of the condition of this University prior to the year 2005. Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa was set up at a cost of Rs. three crore which was a very small amount for the construction of any university. With this amount, only three to four rooms could be constructed which would not have suffice the purpose of a University. But the present State Government has accorded it the status of full- fledged University by providing grant of more than hundred crore of rupees. Chaudhary Devi Lal University is being given higher grants as compared to other Universities in the State, added Mr. Hooda.
          The Chief Minister said that better infrastructural facilities have been developed in the State.  Special attention has been paid towards the education of youth in the State as it has been realized that only those country or state would remain on the forefront which leads in education.  We ensured the development of State according to the vision we had set up in the year 2005. In the next few years, the State would develop as an education hub of international level.  
          Mr. Hooda said that the State has witnessed an unprecedented development during the last 9-10 years. The State which was at 14thposition in terms of development has now reached number one. He said that the State also ranks first in per capita income, per capita investment, resource mobilization and per capita expenditure on planned budget.
Mr. Hooda said that the State is also emerging as a sports hub. The players of Haryana have brought laurels to the State and the Country with their scintillating performance in the Commonwealth Games held at Glasgow recently.    Out of the total 64 medals won by the country, 22 medals have been won by the players of Haryana. Though Haryana is a small State having 2 per cent population of the country, yet its players have won more than 35 per cent medal of the total medal won by the country in the Commonwealth Games. He said that this all has become possible due to the Sports Policy of the State Government.
On this occasion, Mr. Hooda inaugurated an ultramodern Multi Purpose Hall in the University constructed at a cost of Rs. 28.50 crore. He also laid the foundation stone of new girls’ hostel to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 8.50 crore and teaching block of Law Department to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 10.36 crore.
Earlier, Mr. Hooda inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of five projects related to education and water supply for district Sirsa. Besides, he also assured full cooperation of the State Government in the construction of Railway under Bridge in Ellenabad.
