CHANDIGARH, MAY 31
Haryana Police will launch a month-long special drive on June 1, 2018 to strictly deal with the traffic violators especially the motorists without helmets on the national highways in the state.
While stating this here today, a spokesman of Police Department said that in compliance of the orders of Punjab and Haryana High Court, all kinds of traffic violators especially the motorists without helmets would be sensitized to abide by the traffic rules while being on roads in the state. Those male or female motorists, who would ride a two wheeler without helmet, including pillion-riders and triple riders, would face challans including suspension of their driving licenses under the provisions of Motor Vehicles Act. Apart from this, Police will also lay special emphasis on penalizing the triple riding, which considers as one of the main causes of fatal accidents and fatalities.
The spokesman said that 24 traffic police stations have been set up to regulate the traffic situation in the state. Besides this, 6 new traffic police stations would soon come up in the state’s jurisdiction on Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP) and Kundli-Ghaziabad-Palwal (KGP) highways, one each in district of Sonipat, Jhajjar, Gurugram, Mewat, Palwal and Faridabad to regulate traffic on the expressway.
He said that Deputy Inspector General, Traffic, Mr Rakesh Arya has directed all the traffic incharges to spread awareness about traffic norms and strict enforcement of the rules to regulate traffic. Our sole aim is that people should use helmets for their safety and not because the police is forcing it upon them or to escape from fine or challans. He also urged the motorists especially the women motorists to abide by the traffic rules and to use helmets. At the same time, police would also ensure that general public did not face any harassment, he added.
He said that Police would also make sure the documentation of traffic offences in the form of photographs and videography would be done to be presented to the High Court as evidence and to ensure strict legal action. DIG Mr Arya urged the motorists especially the women motorists to always wear helmet, follow the prescribed speed limit on the road and abide by the traffic rules to ensure their safe journey.
He also said that as many as 11,88,562 challans have been issued for all kind of traffic violations during the last five months period that is from January 1, 2018 to May 27, 2018. In addition, police has issued challans to 2,93,286 male motorists and 5,968 female motorists riding without helmet.
MOBILE PHONES: Taking stringent action against such drivers as are found guilty of using mobile phones while driving, the Haryana State Transport Department has issued instructions to suspend them immediately.
Giving details, Transport Minister, Mr Krishan Lal Panwar said here today that with a view to ensuring the safety of general public, the department had issued directions to all general managers to suspend the drivers found guilty of using mobile phone while driving under Rule 8 and file charge-sheet against them.
The move would minimize accidents and ensure the safety of the people travelling in state transport buses.
