Unauthorized drinking water connections in Kaithal block to be regularized

Director, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation, Government of India, Mr. Sujoy Majumdar has asked the district administration, Kaithal to regularize all the unauthorized drinking water connection in all 62 villages of Kaithal block by the end of this year under the pilot project being run by the Central Government for recharging of ground water.
          While giving this information today, an official spokesman said that he also asked to put taps on all the connections so as to ensure uniform supply of drinking water in both rural and urban areas. An action plan should be prepared for this, he added.
Mr. Majumdar said that individual toilets should be constructed in all  houses and feedback regarding the project should also be collected from the rural areas. Apart from this, he also stressed the need to ensure effective management of solid and liquid waste   in the villages so that the aim of this project could be achieved. Mr. Majumdar also praised the district administration for the work done in Kaithal Block under this project and said that development seen in this block is more than the expectation.
          The spokesman said that the Central Government has started a project to recharge the ground water in 10 States and 14 blocks in the country having maximum exploitation of ground water in which Kaithal Block of district Kaithal has also been included from Haryana. Under this project, by analyzing the figures of ground water, the people would be educated about the methods of recharging the ground water. The community participation was also being sought in this work, he  added. World Bank, Central Ground Water Board, Agriculture Department, Ground Water Cell and Local Public Health Department have been included in this project.
          The spokesman said that the people were being made aware to stop the wastage of water flowing in the drains. He said the aim of the pilot project of the Central Government to recharge the ground water was to ensure the supply of adequate drinking water through water management programme run through various rural development and public assistance. Toilets should be constructed in every house in villages. He said that the abandoned use of ground water by the farmers, use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides have adversely affected the quality of water and also harmed the agriculture land. To control this damage, the Central Government has started this project. On the basis of outcome of this project, it would be implemented in the entire State so as to ensure clean and adequate drinking water for future.
He said that Haryana Urban Development Authority has transferred five acres land to district administration free of cost where solid waste management plant would be installed. This plant would be set up in about one year. Besides, organic manure, electricity could also be generated from this plant, he further added.
