Haryana Urdu Academy recommends 12 Urdu writers for state awards

CHANDIGARH, JULY 18 
Haryana Urdu Academy has announced the State Level Awards for 12 Urdu writers for their outstanding contribution in the field of Urdu language and literature during the year 2013-14.  
            While giving this information today, the Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Dr K. K. Khandelwal who is also the Executive Vice Chairman, Haryana Urdu Akademi said that every year the Academy gives awards to eminent Urdu writers for the promotion of Urdu language and literature. The Academy also gives financial assistance to selected Urdu manuscripts for publication and prize money to Urdu books.
Dr Khandelwal said that Dr Rana Partap Singh, “Rana Gannori” has been selected for Fakhr-e-Haryana Award for his lifetime contribution to the enrichment of Urdu literature and language. This award carries a cash amount of Rs 1.50 lakh.  Mr B. D. Kalia “Hamdam” would be given Hali Award for promotion of Urdu language, especially for significant writings on Hali carrying a cash amount of Rs 1.21 lakh.
            He said that Prof. S. P. Sharma “Tafta” would be given Kanwar Mohinder Singh Bedi Award for socio-cultural achievements and Sabir Dutt Award for social upliftment of women would be given to Ms Jahan Nazeer of Nuh, Mewat carrying cash amount of 25,000 each.
           He said that similarly, Mr Roop Narain Chandna “Roop” would be given S. M. H. Burney Award for poetry, Mr Zahid-ul-Ehsan would be given Khawaja Ahmed Abbas Award for Urdu prose, Munshi Gumani Lal Award to Dr K. K. Rattu, Urdu Journalism Award for the promotion of Urdu Journalism would be given to Mr Quari Mohd. Ishaque Hafiz Award for Ghazal or Qawaali singing in Urdu would be given to Mr Nile Khan and award for contribution to theatre in Urdu to Zulfiquar Khan, he added.
            Dr Khandelwal said that award for writers or poets belonging to Haryana but living outside Haryana is given to Mr K. K. Toor and Governor’s Nau Amoz Urdu Award for new learners of Urdu language and literature has been given to Mr S. L. Dhawan Kanwal. All these awards carry equal cash amount of Rs 21,000 each.  All the awardees would also be honoured with a shawl, a memento and a citation, he added.
            For the year 2013-14, manuscripts titled “Gul-Badaman” written by Diwan Tasavvur, has been selected for financial assistance of Rs 15,000 or 75 per cent of total expenditure of publication, whatever is less. The selected Urdu books for prizes are from Azad Sonipati’s book “Shauq Afza”, Dr Nafas Ambalvi’s book “Sarabon Ka Safar”, Jyoti Sang’s book “Khubsurat Khalish”, Maikash Ambalvi’s book “Ehsas-e-Tanhaiee”, Roop Narian Chandna Roop’s book “Ghronde Ret Ke” and Dr Nazma Jabeen’s book “Raigan Bulandi” carrying an equal amount of prize Rs 11,000. The awards would be conferred upon the writers whose names have been announced today in a state level function.
