Role of writers in building strong society important: Hooda

CHANDIGARH, JULY 15
 The Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, today said that the role of writers and litterateurs in building a strong and prosperous society is as important as of science and technology.
          Mr. Hooda was speaking during the Sahitya Parv-2014 organized by Haryana Sahitya Akedemi here today. As many as 18 litterateurs were honoured for their outstanding contribution in the field of literature during the year 2013.
          While congratulating the awardees, Mr. Hooda said that writers and litterateurs occupy a prominent place in the society. Though he himself was not a litterateur but he acknowledged their importance in the society. He has always made efforts to ensure that writers and litterateurs get due honour for their outstanding contribution to the society with their brilliant writings.
          Mr. Hooda said that it is a matter of pride that Haryana which is known as ‘Vir Bhumi’ has also contributed significantly in the field of literature. It is the same pious land which has witnessed the creating of Vedas and Upnishads and the deliverance of sacred message of Gita. He said that a number of famous poet, writers and litterateurs belonged to Haryana.
          Mr. Hooda said that writers depict the real picture of society through their writing. Therefore, they should highlight important issues of society through their writing as he said ‘ Jahan na Pahunche Ravi, Wahan Pahunche Kavi’. He said that Napoleon the Great had once said that sword and pen was the only two mighty things in the world but pen is mightier than sword.
          Lauding the role of Haryana Sahitya Akademi, the Chief Minister said that the Akademi has been playing an outstanding role for the promotion of literature in the State. He said that every year the Akademi honoured the litterateurs for their outstanding contribution in the field of literature.
          Speaking on the occasion, Haryana Education Minister Mrs. Geeta Bhukkal said that the honour which has been given to litterateurs under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda has never been given earlier in the state. She said that in the present technology driven society, it was essential for the youth to read good books so as to enhance their knowledge.
          While describing writers and litterateurs as the mirror of society, Mrs. Bhukkal said they depict a real picture of society and urged them to write against the evils spreading in the society. She said that the writings of these awardees should be made available on the internet also so that the young generations could read and acquire knowledge from it.
          In his welcome address, Director, Haryana Sahitya Akademi Dr. Shyam Sakha Shyam said that the budget of Akademi has been increased from Rs. 70 lakh to Rs. 3 crore. Highlighting the activities of the Akademi, he said that three programmes were organized by the Akademi every month and among these, workshop in colleges and monthly poetry debate are prominent.
          Earlier, Mr. Hooda honored 18 litterateurs for their outstanding work in the field of literature during the year 2013. Under National Honour Category, Aajiven Sahitya Saadhna Samman was conferred upon recipient of Padam Bhushan Shri Gopal Das ‘Neeraj’. The award carries a cash prize of Rs. 5 lakh, a shawl and a citation. Similarly, Aditya-Alhar Hasya Samman carrying a cash prize of Rs. one lakh was conferred upon Dr. Ashok Chakrdhar.
           Under Haryana Samman Category, Mahakavi Surdass Samman of Rs. 1.50 lakh was conferred upon Mr. Madan Gopal Shastri whereas Babu Balmukund Gupt Samman, Lala Desh Bandhu Gupt Samman and Pt. Lakhmichand Samman carrying cash prize of Rs. one lakh each was conferred upon Mrs. Chandrakanta, Mr. Manmohan Gupt Moni and Acharya Mahabir Prasad Shastri respectively. Similarly, Jankavi Mehar Singh Samman and Shresth Mahila Rachnakar Samman of Rs. one lakh were given to Mr. Yoginder Moudgil and Mrs. Sudarshan Ratnakar respectively.
          Vishesh Sahitya Sevi Samman of Rs. 51,000 each was conferred upon Dr. Rajinder Mohan Bhatnagar, Dr. Baldev Vanshi, Dr. Amarnath Amar, Mr. Amarnath Sahni, Mr. Virender Goyal, Mr. Roop Devgun, Mr. Mahender Sharma and Mr. Anupam Mishr.
          Mr. Hooda also honoured Mr. Satyanarayan Vashisth with Pt. Lakhmi Chand Santawana Puraskar. The award was received by Mr. Jitender on behalf of Mr. Mr. Satyanarayan Vashisth.
          On this occasion Mr. Hooda also released latest edition of Harigandha Magazine published by Haryana Sahitya Akademi. He also released the Souvenir of the Akedmi . Mr. Hooda released a book entitled ‘ Sanskaron Ke  Samwahak Lok Geet’ written by Mrs Krishna Arya.
          Director General, Information, Public Relations and Cultural Affairs Department Mr. Sudhir Rajpal presented the vote of thanks.
          Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Executive Vice Chairman of Haryana Sahitya Akademi Dr. K.K Khandelwal was also present on this occasion.
