Governor stresses need to promote organic farming

CHANDIGARH, OCT 17
 The State Agricultural Marketing Board, U.T. Chandigarh in association with Kheti Virasat Mission organized a seminar on “Organic Farming” for observing World Food Day at NITTTR Auditorium, Sector-26, Chandigarh today. Shri V.P. Singh Badnore, the Governor of Punjab & the Administrator, U.T. Chandigarh was the chief guest and Smt. Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament; Chandigarh was the guest of honor on this occasion.
 The seminar was a huge success and was attended by experts, farmers, counselors and teachers. The objective of the seminar was to promote eco-friendly concept of cultivation reducing the dependency on chemicals and fertilizers for the benefit of farmers.  The farmers were guided and motivated to use farm yard manure/vermi compost and organic fertilizers/organic inputs etc for production of organic agriculture produce with the scientific way.
 Smt. Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament; Chandigarh was overwhelmed to see the turnout at the event, and therefore she lauded the initiative of State Agricultural Marketing Board and Kheti Virasat Mission. Expressing her happiness on Chandigarh being awarded as the first Solar City, she stressed on now becoming the Organic City. She further requested the Governor to extend his support in creating an Organic market or mandi in Chandigarh.
The Governor of Punjab and Administrator, U.T., Chandigarh said, “I feel glad to be a part of this wonderful platform where experts from diverse regions are sharing their enriched knowledge in the field of organic farming. I strongly believe that Chandigarh can become smart in true sense by becoming an Organic City.” He also appreciated the State Marketing Board and Kheti Virasat Mission for bringing this subject to the public platform, and ensured the Member of Parliament his support in creating an Organic Market or Mandi in Chandigarh.”
