CHANDIGARH, OCT 25
With a view to facilitate students in the State, the Haryana Government has removed the upper limit of 60 kilometres for bus passes issued to them.
This was stated by Transport Minister, Mr. Krishan Lal Panwar, after inaugurating bus stand constructed over a piece of land measuring three kanal and 16 marla at a cost of Rs 56 lakh at Barwala in district Panchkula today.
He said that Chief Minister, Mr. Manohar Lal has approved a proposal to allow students to get passes issued for any destination without limit on distance. The Haryana State Transport is already providing free travel facilities to girl students of all colleges and universities in the State.
He said that 108 buses would be operated from the new bus stand at Barwala, including 80 of Haryana State Transport, two of Chandigarh Transport Undertaking and 26 private buses.
He said that as a result of the transparency brought in due to adoption of e-Tender and other systems, the State Government had saved Rs 10 crore on construction of 36-acre bus stand in Jhajjar, which was built at a cost of Rs 26 crore instead of the estimated Rs 36 crore. Similarly, bus stands were constructed at Ferozepur Jhirka, Nuh and village Matloda with savings of Rs three crore each, he added.
Member of Legislative Assembly, Mr. Gian Chand Gupta, was also present on this occasion.
