Dhesi explains advantage of positive use of RTI

CHANDIGARH, APRIL 6
Haryana Chief Secretary  D.S. Dhesi, said that positive use of the Right to Information (RTI) Act leads to positive energy in the society and brings in transparency and ease in fixing responsibility in administrative work.
        The Chief Secretary was inaugurating a workshop organised by Haryana Institute of Public Administration (HIPA), on the topic of ‘RTI and Suo Moto Disclosures’ here today.
        He said that proper use of   RTI Act could prove to be beneficial for the protection of the Right to Service (RTS) Act. He said that under the RTS Act, all government employees would have to provide public services on time. In case an employee or officer fails to provide services on time,  a complaint could be lodged with Right to Service Commissioner.
        The Chief Secretary said that 195 services have been notified under the RTS Act for time-bound delivery. He said that the RTI Act could prove helpful in smooth provision of these services.
        Describing the RTI Act as a constitutional right of the people, he said that everyone should be made aware about its provisions. Information about the RTI Act would be disseminated during the ‘Gram Uday se Bharat Uday’ campaign being organised by the Central Government from April 14 to 24, 2016.
        Mr. Dhesi said that video conferencing namely ‘Pragati’ was being conducted for the last 11 months for smooth conduct of the ‘Make in India’ programme.
        Central Information Commissioner, Prof. (Dr.) Madabhushanam Sridhar Acharyulu, said that transparency and information play a major role in democracy. He said that that the RTI Act could be utilised in government, semi-government and government aided private institutions.
        Haryana Chief Information Commissioner, Mr. Naresh Gulati, also spoke on the occasion.
