Election Dept declares 2013 as “Voter List Year”

Haryana Election Department has declared the year 2013 as ‘Voter List Year’ in its   series of programmes under which the Department has prepared a schedule of works to be done at various levels for preparing 100 per cent fair and flawless voter list.
          While stating this here today, Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, Mr. Shrikant Walgad said that the core of democracy is fair elections and the base of fair elections is clean voter lists. Election Commission of India is working to make it possible. Keeping in view the upcoming elections and stressing fair lists, the Commission has directed that the flawless  lists should be prepared as decided earlier before releasing the revision programme.
          He said that with a view to ensure the implementation of these directions and for accurate voter lists, the Election Department would commence  the Voter List Year through a State Level Programme at R.K.S.D. College in Kaithal on March 11. The Students of the college would be made aware of their right  and importance of their vote in democracy in this programme. The students would also be urged to get themselves enrolled in the voter lists if they have acquired the age of 18 years and should inspire others too to get them enrolled in voter lists if they fulfill all required conditions so as to strengthen the foundation of democracy.
          Mr. Walgad said that with the relentless efforts of the Department, 8, 04,759 new voters have been included to voter list published on January 15, 2013.  With this the total number of voters in the State is 1,46,84,233 out of which 79,84,762 are men and 66,99,471 women. All voters have been issued their voter cards, he added.
          He said that as per the plan issued by the Department during April 2013, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) would check the errors found in   voter lists along with other voter lists and photo voter slip would be issued to voters for checking by middle of month of May. He said that such voters would be identified whose photo quality is poor in voter list and their photos would be collected in the month of April and May. These works would be carried out by BLOs. He said that comprehensive training would be imparted to BLOs and other concerned officers in the month of March and April for e-roll management. A free helpline 1950 is available for redressing the grievances of people. Also, people can report their grievances on the website of the Departmentwww.ceoharyana.nic.in.
          The concerned officers in the district are working for the accuracy of voter lists according to the plan issued by the Commission, he added.
