Khanpur Kalan Medical College dedicated to people of Haryana

 The UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi will dedicate Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women at Khanpur Kalan, district Sonipat to the people of Haryana on March 8, 2013. This women  medical college has been set up in Government Sector after a gap of 100 years as the Lady Harding Medical College, Delhi was established in 1914.
This was stated by Health Minister, Rao Narender Singh here today. He  said that Haryana Chief Minister, Mr. Bhupinder Singh Hooda, would preside over this function. Health Minister said that with a view to further empower the women, the foundation stone of this college was laid   by Mrs. Sonia Gandhi on March 1, 2009.
            He said that with the approach of Mr. Hooda to promote education in a big way, this state-of-art institute is being developed at a cost of Rs. 700 crore. In the first phase of this college, administrative block and residences have been completed at a cost of Rs. 475 crores and Rs. 50 crore have been spent to provide world class infrastructure with state-of-art machinery and equipment.
            Rao Narender Singh said that Haryana has scaled new heights in the field of basic infrastructure, facilities and medical education. He said that the construction work of another   medical colleges at Nalhar in Mewat and in Karnal is going on and they would soon be made functional. With this, the number of Government Medical Colleges would be increased to four in the state. Besides, the State Government has a proposal to set up a medical college in Majra Sheoraj of district Rewari in Public Private Partnership mode. Apart from this, AIIMS-II is being set up in Badhsa, district Jhajjar, he added.
            He said that the commencement of these colleges would provide better opportunities to those opting for medical education and it would also promote clinical research in a big way.
            Health Minister said that at present, there are 700 seats of MBBS and 221 seats of post graduate in Government and Private Colleges whereas, there were only 350 such seats in March 2005. He said that with the starting of Nalhar Medical College in the year 2013-14, the number of seats would be increased to 800. He said that the State Government under the leadership of Mr. Hooda is making concerted efforts to provide better health facilities and good society could only be imagined on the basis of better health services and quality education.
